Bells and Rims

I once had a friend that played the worst looking trombone you have ever seen. On enquiry, he explained he got this part from that trombone, the slide from another old trombone, the bell from somewhere else, and he had sanded the metal to change the thickness and left the brass in very bad shape. The trombone played beautifully and in reality was custom built. Edwards now let you do the picking, with a choice of Bell diameters, which you should specify. The bell metal thickness can range from #20 up to #23.

Ding ding, the bells are ringing!

The metal can be either Yellow brass, Rose Brass, or Red Brass, each having different percentages of copper and zinc. The hand spinning and buffing techniques can be customised. After choosing the metal, a heat treatment (Cherry Flame) is applied to also change the sound characteristics of the bell. Heat treatment on different parts of the bell can create different responses of the instrument.

The rim can be soldered (filled with solder) or unsoldered. This small change provides a difference in the response of the instrument.

All of these small differences allow the use of the words "Response, Projection, Articulation, Fundamental, Centered", and a plethora of other to describe the characteristics of the instrument, which should be covered when you contact us.
