Rounded Surface Octave Key
The surface of the Yanagisawa left hand thumb rest has a rounded profile to provide the player with a comfortable position for support of the instrument.
The thumb of course provides the means of changing octaves in the saxophone and with this rounded profile the thumb can easily ROLL onto the perfectly positioned speaker key, providing an ease of use sometimes not found in other instruments.
On other brands of saxophone one can find that the thumb is sometimes pinched between the speaker key and the thumb rest.
Naturally there are many fine saxophones on which this does not occur however it is an important point to be addressed when choosing your new saxophone.
