Single Unit Seat (Base)
All wind instruments rely on a chamber of air becoming a resonant column during the production of the sound. This resonance can be marred if the column through which the air is passing, has constraining walls which differ in their reflective and resonance characteristics. All the fine instrument manufacturers know this although many take short cuts and use cheaper production methods to satisfy commercial needs.
Yanagisawa, as you already have read, is one of the most resonant of all saxophones in the world today. The support plate described here, is designed to provide the most resonant characteristics for the Yanagisawa saxophone, in such a way that the mid range is solid, and providing excellent note stability.
The design of such a part has to address every single note on the Yanagisawa saxophone to ensure the even temper across the range of the instrument.
